At this time the City of Victoria, as it now exists, has been built entirely under my direction, I need not detail how many fell victims to the then unhealthy climate, where but few alive now who can tell the tale with me.
I may in conclusion briefly observe that Victoria now covers upwards of six hundred acres of ground, there are upwards of twenty miles of Streets in the City alone, and thirty miles of Road beyond it. I have, with the exception of the land referred to, (sold previously to 1874) managed the sale of all the remaining portions of the City giving a Rent Roll together with the Public Buildings of $135,558 per annum with collection of Premiums of $609,457. I may further add that the Public Works designed and executed by me in the Colony have amounted to the sum of $1,900,984. A small percentage on those sums would furnish me with the Pension I believe I have faithfully earned.
Submitting the above for the consideration of His Excellency The Governor,
I have, &c.,
Signed Chas: St Geo: Cleverly,
Surveyor General.
