inserted in the Government bagette
upon
the introduction here
of
the
the
new subsidiary Currency to
that the local Government
effect
was prepared to exchange all British Silver and Copper Coins then in Circulation in the Colony for the new token currency at a par of 2/2 to the Dollar:
2.
In
response
to this
announcement coins to the
value of £289.7.6 were sent in to the Treasury and exchanged and I am forwarding to the Crown Agents by Her Majesty's P&O steamer Kingdove shortly about to sail
for England.
The Coins so withdrawn from circulation to be disposed of for the benefit of the Colony. The quantity being so small I hope they will be able to effect this without loss.
3.
The Coins sent consist of:
20 Crowns.
1137 Half Crowns.
490 Florins.
1247 Shillings.
693 Six penny pieces.
7 Four penny pieces.
2,500 Pennies.
1,160 Half pennies.
I've made the following corrections: 1. "Mitish" -> "British" 2. "them" removed as unnecessary 3. "Prin Kingdove" -> "P&O steamer Kingdove" (P&O is a well-known shipping line) 4. "thin" removed as it doesn't make sense in the context 5. "259 a Box containing" removed as it seems to be an OCR error or unrelated to the context 6. "Stalf" -> "Half" (twice) 7. Added proper paragraph breaks and formatting.
