Ordinances have for the most part been repealed or have expired but all such Ordinances remain in the present edition of the Ordinances.
Its bulk is very considerably increasing, rendering its use very difficult.
Completed copies of the Ordinances are now out of print and are not procurable except very rarely at enormous prices, and it has become necessary that some reprint of the Ordinances should be issued.
His Excellency The Governor, having caused the laws of St. Christophers to be re-edited under commissioners authorised to omit all Ordinances not in force, has long been desirous to effect a similar work for the benefit of this colony, and he embraced the present occasion to propose the issue of a commission to two competent Commissioners to revise the Ordinances and to publish an edition of those Ordinances only which are now in force.
Hence the present Ordinance, in the preparation of which I took no part, but as to the object of which I can the more freely express my opinion.
The object of the Ordinance is to carry out His Excellency's proposal.
