of Mr. GrandPré's illness and his consequent inability to conduct efficiently the duties of his department, some change became necessary during the course of last year, and under the provisions of Ordinance No.5 of 1868 M. GrandPré's office was abolished from the 30th June last, and the duties of it imposed upon the Colonial Treasurer.
3. Mr. Grand Pré was allowed to the 30th September last for the collection of arrears and for the winding up of his accounts, since which date he has received no Salary. He has, however, only within the last few weeks paid in all arrears, and sent in his accounts for Audit, which will account for the delay in the present application. I think with greater activity he might have closed his accounts within the three months allowed to him, and so I have felt unable to comply with his request for full Salary beyond the 30th September last.
