The rebuilding and enlargement of the Post office is work much required, and for which due provision has been made in the Estimates for 1864. The hall of the Supreme Court building which adjoins the Post office is the only suitable position at the disposal of the Government for the accommodation of the Post office department during the erection of the new premises; of this space is at present being used, pending the enlargement of the Supreme Court building which has for some time been in contemplation, by the Prisoners awaiting trial, and by the Coolies and messengers of the department occupying the building. Accommodation for these must therefore be provided elsewhere, before the new Post Office can be commenced.

5. The object of the present Supplementary Estimate is to provide this accommodation by making at once the additions to the Supreme Court building which could not under any circumstances have been much longer delayed, and advantage is taken of the opportunity to provide some additional accommodation for the Registrar.
