And as to repairs, soft foreign wood which does not suit this climate, I have discarded these woods entirely. Slaughter Houses are to be repaired using hardwood, and Teak, Manilla, and Singapore China pine are the best woods for building with. E. do. Majistret can be used for internal doors.

The experiment of painting plaster work, as mentioned in my report last year, appears to be a success in preventing discolouration and damp. Several of the Police Stations and Government House have been painted.

As anticipated in my report last year, $5000 was provided for payment of current repairs. However, some instances have been postponed due to accounts not being settled.

The Wanchai Police Station roof is in a most dilapidated state. It was one of the first private houses erected in the Colony and came into possession of Government for non-payment of rent. The whole building is considered to be in a bad state.
