In connection with that establishment I had the Locomotive department working as ironing machinery facility arrangements of the Shrewsbury Birkenhead Railway inspecting their Engines & Rolling stock during construction. Subsequently I held a similar position on the Midland Great Western Railway of Ireland, the Locomotive department of which was under my management for upwards of four years. I have also had some experience in Civil Engineering on the Ennis Railway.
In these operations having the management & control of large numbers of Workmen.
I retired from active business in 1858 since which period having for several years previously held a Commission in the Militia, I was out with that force from the Crimean war until the disembodiment about 2 years ago. I then went out to America & on my return designed improved vessels for conveying Petroleum in safety across the Atlantic & became the managing Director of a Company for building such vessels, which are a success.
I now enclose some letters. - I found it necessary to do so as all my original letters of recommendation from home, so have enclosed a copy of my admission paper as an associate of the Institution of Civil Engineers shewing that I am personally known to these gentlemen.
I shall be most happy to afford any further information or wait on you personally at any time you may appoint. I have the honour to be your most Obedient servant,
