circumstances of Hong Kong.
I am
not
in possession at this moment
of sufficient information regarding the circumstances of the
burial grounds in the Colony,
to enable one to offer
any decided opinion upon several of the points raised by your letter.
I cannot remember within
recent years
any local legislation
in Hong Kong bearing on the subject.
Of course,
as to burial ground, it must be alienated
from the Crown before it
can be consecrated.
I do not know
the terms
under which the
Cemeteries
in the Colony
now open
are held. These
are all points upon which,
it would be desirable to have a full report from The Crown Law Officer of the
Colony.
The population of
Hong Kong
consisted on
the 14th Sept 1882 of about 157,000
Chinese, and 3,000 Foreigners.
