I told the Acting Port Master General that as the mails had all come through, and the Steamer was leaving with only that, it had to stay for a few days, and that he did not acquire any official code or instructions to detain the Steamer.

The Port Master General then informed me that the Agent of the Company had made a request to the Harbour Master that the Steamer should not be detained. As it was understood that the Steamer was not required by the Post Office, or any other Government Department, I must decline to make any order for its detention.

The Port Master General then informed me that the Agent of the Company had made a communication to him, and as far as the Merchants were concerned, they were not in favour of detaining the Steamer. It was understood that the berth was required for another steamer.

I was informed that the Agent had travelled as a passenger with his family by the Steamer.
