On this point Lord de Grey desires me to observe that all persons who may be disposed of for War Department purposes will be compensated by the War Department, the compensation being fixed by the Commanding Royal Engineer in conjunction with the Surveyor-General of the Colony, or such other Colonial Officer as may be suitable.

Lord de Grey intimates that he may receive the assent of the Duke of Newcastle to the views herein set forth, and early communication is desired in order that the necessary instructions may be transmitted to the local Military Authorities.

Sin & Rogers hope the business will be settled very fairly & there is ground for further remonstrance. It seems clear Lt. Gov. has done his duty. In any ebullitions he may have to offer Under-Sec.
