General Post Office, May 1863.

In reference to your letter of the 16th instant, I have to request that you will be so good as to inform me of the result of the enquiries which you propose to make at the offices of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., as to what would have been the cost of sending the box of botanical specimens addressed to you, received by post from Hong Kong, as a parcel, and by one of the Company's steamers.

I beg that the sum to be paid by you for the conveyance of the box in question may be given up to this office.

W. Hooker
