Confidential legal services are rendered to persons employed under this Office, either in advising or prosecuting, and it is expected that for such remuneration the Attorney General may be expected to do whatever legal business there may be on hand; His Lordship is consequently of opinion that the Attorney General was not justified in calling in the assistance of a junior Counsel, as he appears to have done in the case of "Jobuson versus Joyous Bedding". Lord Rusell, however, conceives that other costs of legal proceedings, such as are charged in the Crown Solicitor's Bills should be payable by the Department from which the reference is made and charged in the Colonial Contingent Account.

I am,
