In reply to your letter of the 22nd Inst I may state that the Lint sent to Hong-Kong was of what is generally considered of the first quality, namely Hand made, and from old linen - a far-cheaper and better-looking Lint could be supplied if preferred, Made by Machine, and from new flax fibre or Cotton.
Regarding the linen for bandages having been sent instead of Calico as ordered we can only say that Calico is never mentioned at all - the order stands "14 pieces of linen for bandages" - as this quantity appeared an enormous one, we, on permission supplied one piece of linen, such as is made expressly for bandages.
