expressed his
Concurrence.
After much experience
in purchasing Drugs for the Colonies,
and
considering
it
a matter of the
greatest importance to secure undoubted quality, the Agents General when buying Medicines dispense with competitive Tenders, with the approval and sanction
of
Her
Majesty's Government, and
obtain whatever
may be required
from the Apothecaries Company, which
without doubt is the most reliable
source of supply. Where human life
is concerned
an
insignificant
saving is dearly purchased if
attended with risk.
But
when articles
are
required by the Medical Department,
other than Medicines, such for instance as lint, bandages &c.,
if
an exact description of
the
quality is given the Agents General have little difficulty in supplying the demands. I may add that whenever general terms
are employed,
however
it is the invariable
practice of this office to order the
best quality.
I have the honour to be
Sir
Your most Obedient Servant
