power (provided sufficient funds be raised) to give a suitable cartoon for the reception of the Morrison Library, the Mission Library and the Asiatic Society's Library valuate collections of Books which are at present scattered away for the most part, in damp inaccessible places, and which if not soon rescued from their present condition of unavoidable neglect, will be permanently lost to the public through the ravages of Insects and the Climate.

In conclusion, I beg to enclose copies of the correspondence I have had with Dr Home, the principal Medical Officer of the Military Medical Department, on the question as to whether the occupation of the site in question could be attended with any ill effects to the Troops quartered in the Murray Barracks. The Committee conceive it to be impossible that any objection could arise on this score, but, as the correspondence shews Dr Home prefers that, if any expression of his opinion be considered necessary, the application for it should emanate from Government.
