I have had no Consular duties to discharge, and the only thing I was able to do was to obtain the recognition by the Vice Roy of Canton and the Council of Government of this Colony, of my character as Consul General.

And I have written to these Authorities communicating the Supreme decision.

I am directed to acknowledge your application of 18th instant to be recognized as in charge of the Peruvian Consulate General of China, until your confirmation shall be received from Her Britannic Majesty's Government.

In reply, I am to point out that this Colony, being entirely distinct from Chinese jurisdiction territory, no appointment to Consular in China can be recognized here.
