Carry out this task, but the crowding on board still continues. The turnkey in charge of the boat bringing the convicts remains in the police boat and calls out to the convicts - he does not address the convict boat; I believe that the convicts would be restrained. I have received an order that a turnkey shall be with the prisoners in the boat.
No further examination of W. R. Williamson was recalled.
I supposed that the turnkey went in the prisoners' boat, as I before stated. However, I never actually saw that the turnkey was in the boat.
I usually stood on the poop at the time the prisoners returned to the Hulk - and I can, from there, see the boats until they approached close to the ship's side, but I cannot see them arrive alongside.
I have been at the gangway when the convicts came on board, and therefore I have seen if my orders were actually carried out. I think that I misunderstood the question put to me when I stated that I ordered that a turnkey should be in the boat with the convicts - I did not give that order.
