sevour deposeth. I am black of the Connect Huth. I know that on the evening of the 23rd

Inly the boat bringing the last detachment of the prisoners to the Hulk was upset when alongside and

some of the prisoners were drowned.

I have ascertained from the Convict Register that thirty-eight men drowned. I produce a return taken from the Register showing

the names and particulars relating to the thirty-eight deceased. I am certain that the list is accurate.

William Robert Williamson swore

deposeth. I am Superintendent of the Convict Hulk. I have held that appointment since the 6th February 1869, but the prisoners were not placed on board the Convict Hulk until the 30th June. On that day, the Hulk was placed in its position off Stonecutters Island. The duty of the bulk of the prisoners was to work on shore at Stonecutters Island, and for this purpose they were conveyed ashore early each day, returning in the evening. For the purpose of landing, I had a long boat, and another smaller boat for the Police Guard and Turnkeys.
