The junction of all drains should be at an incline to the line of their relative mains, and in the direction of the fall thereof, and never at right angles to the same.

The present delivery of all the sewerage of the City is through the open mouths of the sewers on the foreshore of the harbor; nor does there seem to be any provision for the abatement of this palpable nuisance. The foreshore becomes impregnated with impure matter of every description, to the extreme annoyance of all residents within its range, and the action of the tide is insufficient to purify it.

It becomes therefore of the highest importance to devise some means to remove this evil; and the Committee give their decided approval to a suggestion made to remove the outfalls to points beyond low water mark, by the extension of some of the present, or future, sewers to reservoirs at certain intervals on the sea front, and with them intermediate outlets could be connected by a system of ...
