As the error is entirely M. Thornton's,
and I have no reason to doubt Mr. Watson's
assertion that he has no
funds of M. Thornton's in his hands, I trust that
Your Grace will sanction the arrangement I proposed in my Despatch No. 300 of 20th
ultimo, and allow the account to be
adjusted
on Mr. Thornton's return to the
Colony in six weeks' time, supposing
him to have made no

refund in England.
In the event of accident, it
will be as
competent to this Government,
at that date, as now, to have recourse to the bond which Mr. Watson
has
given.
