It will be in my power to afford, I have the honor to state, that the Colonial Native schools do not come under my cognizance in any way and therefore I regret my inability to afford information on this branch of the subject.

2ndly There is no Native Hospital in this Colony. The only establishment into which sick Chinese are admitted is the Government Civil Hospital. The total number of admissions during the last five years having amounted to only 452. I have prepared and inclose a table of the result of the treatment of these cases. It must not however be supposed that this table represents fully either the diseases to which the Chinese are liable, the proportions in which they suffer from each disease, or even the usual rate of mortality. This will be at once understood when I state the conditions under which the patients are admitted.

They are for the most part found, nearly moribund, in the streets and brought to Hospital by the Police - destitute paupers, or wounded in disturbances. A large proportion is contributed by the limited Chinese Police force maintained by the Colony.
