The Chief Justice, Mr. Auline received similar addresses. On one occasion: Sir George Bonham was waited upon in like manner, as were also the late Mr. Stillen Chief Police Magistrate, Sir John Bowring and Colonel Caine Lieutenant Governor.

I think it right to take the opportunity of correcting two points of more or less importance on which M. Adams' remarks may possibly have induced misapprehension.

In the first place M. Adams is wrong in designating this presentation "an unusual matter": I think I may add Sir John Davis though there is no record in the public papers or in Official archives, and there may be others whose cases escape my memory.
