Her Majesty's Minister in China has issued the desired Regulation against the sale of Arms &c. to British Subjects; and I have now the further satisfaction of reporting that an Official Despatch dated 22nd Ultimo has been received from the Singapore Government intimating that under the operation of a Law recently enforced no arms are permitted to be sold in the Straits Settlements for exportation unless under a declaration that they are intended for the use of the Imperial Government of China.
3. From Calcutta however I have reason to know that up to the beginning of last month shipments were still made, and I have as yet heard of no steps taken in prohibition or warning.
4. The instructions conveyed in your Grace's last, paragraph A have been followed throughout, and shall be strictly adhered to.
