This house is of little value, and of M. who is now in England, be still willing to repay its original cost of $1010, I would strongly recommend that his offer be accepted, for so little did I find the property appreciated.

My consul at that port is of opinion that they would sell only for the value of the materials of which the building is composed, and that of the land as well. On my late visit to Amoy, that I was glad to sublet it for one year (ending August 1864) simply for the sum of $90, this being an unremunerative rental to the agency from all outlay in respect thereto.

In Amoy, besides live boats and a few moveables of which I take inventory at present, the agency holds very eligible emigration premises, as well as the land on which they stand, but these are so situated as to be available for no other purpose, and probably not exceeding $400, together with a kitchen garden site; while they cost $4,000.

I have, &c.
