Hongkong, 4th August, 1860.

In reply to your dispatch of this date, I have the honor to inform you,

1. That my salary as Emigration agent at Canton is £750 per annum, together with a table allowance of $150 per month making altogether $450 per annum.

2. That while I decline to accept personally any pecuniary responsibility for monthly advances to Mr. Sampson at Amoy and the disposal of property in Swatow for emigration purposes.
