the Current year. I was at first averse to allowing the continuance of this upon for a full arrangement and called the Surveyor General statement the necessity for retaining Mr. Carvalho's Services, and I enclose copy of officer's letter.

I think that an increase to the Staff of the Surveyor General's department is shown by that letter to be much required, and I therefore ask your Grace's sanction to Mr. Carvalho being appointed a provisional clerk.
