Your Grace will perceive that Captain Nolloth considered it expedient to withdraw for a time 2 Gun Boats from the Coast; there were at Amoy and Foochow, and the overlooking of the Ports of Swatow and Formosa had already been entrusted to them, but Captain Nolloth writes me he had consulted some of those most interested in those ports, and their Opinion supported the order he had given.
5. At the same time Captain Nolloth (who was unable to attend the Council) advised proceeding with the Land Batteries, and Colonel Reeves accordingly undertook to have them advanced.
