I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Letter No. 538 of this day's date informing me as follows.

Your claim for fees in Criminal Prosecutions before the Supreme Court in cases sent down from the Magistrates in China and Japan has been referred to His Excellency whose opinion is adverse to its allowance.

Permit me respectfully to inquire to what claim made by you you refer.
