Clerks work harder or are worse then they are.

My letter of the 17th January (Copy) N27 will show that so far as the Revenue of this Office is concerned, the Colony can well afford a reasonable increase in the salaries of those who now seek it, and I trust that the matter will meet with His Excellency's sanction.

I have, &c.,

(Signed) F. W. Mitchell,

Postmaster General.

Douglong, 6th March, 1865.

Sir,

It is not without reluctance that we take leave to address to you the present remonstrance, our situation is such, that leaves us no alternative. We therefore take the liberty to bring to your notice the insufficiency of our respective salaries to meet our ordinary necessary expenses, which increase every day with the enhancement of the price of almost every item of our household.
