4. A Quick_R-E-V-I-E-W
Let us discuss certain important words found in topics 1, 2 and. 3. First, we have the word. "basic" It comes from the word "base" the "bottom". The word therefore the meaning of "of great importance" since the "base" is very important to every objsot. Thus we can also say that "basicn is equivalent to which must be known", aa used in "a basic vocabulary" (those words that must be known). Three other words of similar meaning to "basic" are "fundamental" "primary" and -
rudimentary. Try to remember these words.
The next word is "toola", meaning "instruments used by workmen". Thus in the sentenga "worda aze our basic tools" it means that "without worda wa cannot work". (It is of course up to the readers to infer what sort of work require "words".
A person who is used by others for dishonest purposes can be referred to as "a tool", E.s. "As a tool in the hands of a ring of smugglers began to lead a dishonest life."
De not confuse "basic” (as an adjective) with "basis" (as a noun) "Basis", also coming from "base!!
", means "foundation" in a non-physical sense, as used in this sentence: "What is the basis of your argument." meaning "What facts can support

"Sufficient" means "enough" Another useful word is "adequate". Notice that "sufficient" ends in "ient" and not "ent" as in "decent", "different" and "magnificent. Other words that end in "ient" are afficient" (capable); "proficient" (skilled) "daficient" (short of); and "ebllient" (high- spirited). In the examples you find the word "decent" used twice.Decent dresses" mean "acceptable and suitable dresses", "Decent behaviour" means "behaviour that does not bring shame to others "Opinion" means "what one thinkce",
"My opinion" means "What I think",
"Your Opinion" means "what you think."
If we think alike, we say "our opinion".
If we think differently we say "our opinions",
The phrase "in my opinion" means "according to the way I think";
Never say, in my opinion, I think ...
A good phrase to remember is "We differ in our
opinions" meaning "us don't think alike."
Notice the word "Scenery"; This word has no plural spelling. That means there is no such word as "sceneries",
"Prevail" means "be sidespread" as sued in the example above. It can also mean "overcome" as in. "Ohristians must prevail over temptations.
If "prevail is used with the praposition "uponTM it means "persuade" as in "I prevail upon him to belp me in my composition.
