In reply I am to state for m information of the Duke of Newcastle that the amount paid in the case of the Lord of the Isles" has been repaid to the Hong Kong Government by Department through the Agent General for Crown Colonies out of the
vote for relief of distresed Seamen! The case did not appear to My
Lords to be one in which the Owners
of the Ship could be held liable for the expenses, since they
were incurred
solely in the relief of the Crew after the loss of the vessel.
The case of the James Lemon
appears similar to that of the "Lord of the Isles" and the sum paid for the conveyance of the crew,
