A steel punch is made for every character; a matrix is then struck with it; and the Types are east in the ordinary way.

The preparation of these founts was commenced at Penang, nearly thirty years ago, by the late Rev. Samuel Dyer. It has been continued successively at Malacca, Singapore, and Hongkong. The bunt of 3-line Diamond now contains about 6,000 different characters; and the 3-line Bourgeois fount

nearly as many.

This number is more than sufficient to print the Scriptures; and it is being added to

every year.

As specimens of the actual use of these Types, and to show how they may be employed along

with English Types, there are sent:-

1. A copy of the Scriptures in Chinese, printed for the British and Foreign Bible Society.

2. A Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew. By the Rev. Ho Tsin-shen.

3. A Translation of Herschel's Outlines of Astronomy.

4. The Chinese Classics, with a Translation, &c., &c.
