as 5th temporary clerk, has been placed on the Fixed Establishment as 200d clerk. and Mr. Chapman, who has been the temporary 4th clerk for some years, has been made 3rd clerk - the former on a salary of £300, and the latter on £280 per annum.

These changes merely amount to alterations in the designations and salaries of clerkships as sanctioned by the Civil List Ordinance, but which I have not before carried out, as I had not made up my mind as to placing these gentlemen on the Fixed Establishment.

The staff of the Colonial Secretary's office stands at present as follows:

Chief Clerk - Mr L. d'Almada.

First Clerk - Mr J. D'Almada.

Second Clerk - Mr. Marques.

Third clerk - M. Chapman.

M. Chapman's health is so broken that he was allowed leave in the course of last year. I do not think it likely that he will be able to resume his duties here. It was impossible
