Hongkong and its vicinity, unanimously come to the conclusion, that the best, if not the only, site, is that upon which the soldiers' huts and hospitals are at present placed, and in the immediate neighbourhood of which, the 1st Regt (the first Corps encamped on the peninsula) was located last spring.
The position in question occupies a portion of the Western Extremity of the promontory, immediately overlooking the harbour and presents advantages in regards to extent, elevation, aspect, and exposure to the full and uninterrupted influence of the S.W. Monsoon in the hot and unhealthy season of the year, with a certain amount of protection from the N.E. Wind, which, in the opinion of the Committee, no other portion of the peninsula possesses in equal degree; The Committee therefore, cannot help anticipating that much and paramount advantage as regards health, comfort, and efficiency would accrue to the soldier, were suitable Barracks erected in this situation.
