decided upon will in all probability remain unoccupied by Houses, on the ground of Sanitary considerations. I apprehend therefore the Governor will find no difficulty in meeting my last demand, that being for a Parade ground on which the small arm men and Field pieces of the Squadron can be exercised, and even should the case prove to be otherwise, as it is not one on which I should think it right to insist to the slightest detriment of Colonial Interests, I recommend their Lordships to leave it in His Excellency's hands to be dealt with as circumstances shall hereafter permit.

The departure of Lieutenant General Sir Hope Grant for England, by whom the question left open in the Report of the Committee has been reported on, to the Minister of War, precluding joint consideration of it by the Heads here, until further Instructions shall be received from Home, I will now proceed to offer
