As to the second suggestion I may observe that former Regiments (18th, 95th and 59th) had a Canteen in the Barrack Yard, and, presuming the white to be in a similar position there would seem to be no necessity for licensing others.

As to the recommendation that the number of the Licenses should be diminished and houses confined to the main street - 23 - I do not think the number excessive and Mr. Mercer has shown in his minute that are in all the Public Houses the Main street with one exception, and that, a Billiard Saloon, has an entrance from the Queen's Road as well as from Stanley Street; - But assuming that the recommendation was acted on so far as reducing Licenses - we should, I think, be doing a positive injury to many respectable men in depriving them of
