The subscription to the Superannuation Fund is to be repaid on your making application for the same at the Treasury, and will be subject to the confirmation of Her Majesty's Government; this measure will necessarily set at rest any claim which you might ultimately consider yourself entitled to urge against this Government, but as conversation held by you sometime back with His Excellency, may have led to your present determination, I am instructed to acquaint you that in the event of the Home Government sanctioning the grant of Land applied for by you in New Zealand, the present resignation will, it is hoped, not prejudice your claim to consideration; but you must clearly understand that this is a question resting solely with the Right Honorable The Earl Grey.
