India Government 'migrants, sanctioned by the Secretary of State, would add considerably to my income. Otherwise the nominal Salary would be out of proportion with the present heavy duties and responsibilities of my office, compared with other Heads of Departments. The fees alluded to will, I believe, exceed £200 this year, and I would beg that my official income, if calculated for a retiring allowance, be taken at £900 a year.

I most humbly place myself in the hands of His Excellency the Governor with the prayer that he will submit my case to His Lordship the Secretary of State for the Colonies, with such recommendation as my career in this Colony may be deemed to merit.

I have,
(Signed) A. L. Inglis,
Harbor Master, Marine Magistrate, Emigration Officer

(True Copy)
Colonial Secretary.
