Additional Memorandum.
With regard to Hwang-Cheng-"no such name is to be found in the depositions Copies of which accompany your despatch, and I do not know whether he is a criminal or a witness, neither are there any particulars respecting his person or his family with reference to the place stated as Tangan-shan - it is a wild and desert locality on the border of Sin_hwei; uninhabited. In my district Haushan, Moreover, there are no such places as Wan-show-pas, And Lexpeen-town, but in Havshan there is a place called Li wow 1-pien-town, and as the local patois sounds Si as Lui, the Mistake may have thus arisen.
