On the 17th ult: [i.e. a month & 3 days after] the for. Ensign Mr. Caldwell did at an interview & show you what occurred in the Court of Inquiry on the 2nd & 4th ult.

the resignation & haughty demeanour & hausted over the for. refused to accept Mr. Caldwell had this day brought his Official books & the Chief Clerk -

he month has been allowed to Caldwell to make his defence. He had why what remarks what part the money.

the payment for his Salary had been stopped until further orders. Mr. Caldwell thereupon absented at misconduct agt.

he came forward with all the accumulences of the case; Staff appears to have acted with morality & rightly in taking -Caldwell to be liable for the stolen money.

a fit subject for the Colony - ought repaying the sum he took for obtaining which I should say to accept the resignation.
