received from my Council, that he was liable for the deficiency, and he was called upon to make good the amount within six months. He was told also that meanwhile 100 Dollars a month would be deducted from his Salary.
At the expiration of the six months allowed, Mr. Caldwell stated to him that he was unable to raise the 1408 dollars still due, and that the monthly deductions from his Salary might be continued until the whole amount was repaid. Seeing brought the case again before the Executive Council, Mr Caldwell was on the 24th December last informed that in accordance with the advice of that Body he had decided that the question should be reconsidered at the close of the enquiry then pending.
