Settlements of Lingapne &c. may be cited as circumstance in my favor and for the rest I must rely on my character and position, my length of Service in Hongkong, and the testimony already borne on my behalf by the Governors under whom I have worked.
8. It may not be out of place to note that it was considered in the case of a former Governor of Hongkong that he had previously conducted the Government of the Straits Settlements.
