had been provided at the expense of this Colony for two young women to be employed in the Orphan Asylum established here by the Frauenverein of Berlin, and expressing your earnest wish that the ground rent on a piece of land purchased by the Society from this Government should if possible be remitted.

I enclose copies of communications which before the receipt of this dispatch had passed upon the subject of it between this Government and the Representatives of the Society both here and in Berlin, from which it will be seen that after careful consideration I had decided that it would not be right for me to comply with the applications I had received for the release of the ground rent.
