The Duke expressed in his present distresses is in the opinion of the Duke of Marlborough of great hardship, and honestly is rather hard on the part of the Government to withhold from Long Service pension, the worst interpretation being that the least handsome relief summarily hopes that it may in Lordship's Governor be known (as if the Applicant's services had been continuous for the period of his first appointment in 1844, up to the year 1857).
