In July 1849. report came from the Governor that the Office of Registrar would be shortly abolished, Mr Baylis at once resigned upon the suggestion, and applied for compensation for loss of office.
To this application their Lordships by their letter of the 21st of February 1850 declined the request, but went on to sanction the repayment to Mr Baylis of the sum of £90.2.7.
An immediate saving was effected by his retirement, contributing towards the Superannuation fund, in the year 1857.
In the year 1857, Mr Baylis again entered the Public Service, and was recommended for the present Office of Registrar of the Sale of Crown Land, it being stated that "Mr Baylis is by degrees effecting important reforms in the Management of the Sale and hope that his appointment will bring with it very useful results".
