To what extent do such obligations exist? and what will be the equitable mode of dealing with them? That of debt is due from individuals to individuals.

The third point, the question of how to deal with these obligations in practice, is not, I am led to believe, a difficult one at the moment. As a practical matter in Hong Kong, the existing law is that individual obligations (with exceptions that are wholly unimportant) are discharged in sterling shillings specie.

I shall be glad if I could be informed of the general effect of the Hongkong currency, with special reference to the points to which I have now drawn attention, and particulars with regard to the present moment.
