and they have under consideration the several circumstances put forward as ground for increasing the salary rates at present received by those officers

His Lordship sees no objection to the Governor of Hong Kong being authorised to submit to the legislature an ordinance to provide for the revised rates of salary according to the Sketch Enclosed in his despatch No. of 10 February last and they will not object to Your Lordship's recommendation that the Emoluments of the Governor should be fixed at £5000 for annum and those of the Chief Justice at £2500 per annum

With reference to the suggestion of the Governor that the portion of the Salary of the Auditor General (£300) which is at present paid by the Foreign Office in respect to the diplomatic duties performed for that department should be increased to £500 per annum I am

"I am to acquaint you that My Lords and have at present under their consideration an application from that officer received through the Foreign Office for special remuneration in respect to the additional duties thrown upon him in connexion with Consular services and they will hereafter communicate to the Governor the result of their decision on that application.

Sir T. F. Wade. I believe the Despatches has it in contemplation to offer this place, which is vacant, to a Member of The Irish Bar and before the general determination in regard to the person to be appointed

In the want of a lawyer being finally selected the Salary is to be raised under sanction to £1200.
