There proceeding disclose a lamentable amount of mortality amongst the Coolies shipped in that vessel, nearly one-half having been swept off on the voyage.
The ship was about 420 tons British measurement and embarked at Swatow for Havannah 974 Coolies, according to the master's account, of whom only 189 were landed after a voyage of 149 days.
The embarkation took place as far back as December 1854; and although there is a foreign report on board at a Chinese port, however, for a foreign country, the mortality is much deplored, there is to be no power of interference in the matter on the part of this Government, deemed unles it be expedient to bring under the notice of the Norwegian Government with a view to bring the facts to adopt some regulating measure for the carriage of Chinese in Norwegian vessels.
I have the honor to be, Sir, your obedient humble Servant,
Mallott
