As General Straubenzee should know why it advisable that the Kowloon Peninsula be occupied by us at present that if sufficient to put their despatches for future reference. Perhaps Kowloon may be ceded to us at the Peace with China whenever that takes place.

The following is the clause which I should submit for consideration: With reference to former Correspondence with the Governor, I should inform him that the Secretary of State adheres to the opinion that the Cession of the Kowloon Peninsula is an object for, which it will be very desirable to provide in any future Treaty of peace with China.

Major General in Command of the forces having stated to the Secretary of State for War sufficient reasons why the occupation of that Peninsula at the present moment would not be deemed expedient in the opinion of this inexpediency at the present moment, but should repeat the opinion that it will be very desirable to provide for the Cession of the Kowloon Peninsula.
