at the deceased with his fixed bayonet, as he says, to make him release it so as to secure him. - According to medical testimony, both the blow thus struck by Goorunditta and the one received by the deceased when he impaled himself upon the bayonet at first, were mortal, and these are the only two blows for which there is any evidence, either from the admission or otherwise, of having been struck. There are, however, five severe and mortal wounds altogether, the other three being unaccounted for unless the struggle in the water, upon a muddy and slippery bottom, may account for them. There were in all twenty-four wounds, twelve of which are designated by the surgeon as scratches or mere superficial wounds, the other twelve were severe wounds, and of the total, sixteen wounds (including the five mortal ones) were in front.
